LETTERS FROM RUTH
by Gisle Kverndokk and Aksel-Otto Bull produced by The New York Opera Society directed by Raquel Barbieri-Vidal performed at The National Gallery of Art *some rehearsal photos included below |
This world premiere staged concert is based on the journals of Ruth Maier, a Jewish teenager who fled to Norway from Vienna in 1939. A talented diarist, Ruth fell in love with the poet Gunvor Hofmo. After Ruth’s death at Auschwitz, Hofmo immortalized her girlfriend’s memory. The opera is a tender exploration of love in dark times. |
